Video to help communicate the Coffee Growers Cooperative and how it is helping farmers stay in Mexico rather than going north to look for jobs.
The Essentials tells the story of Jim Toepper, a burnt out ex-spy down on his luck at the end of an illustrious career. After going rogue and screwing up on one of his "solo missions" yet again, his former Agency must bail him out, although vowing that this favor will be his last. But in a refusal to accept old age and retirement, Jim takes on a young protege to help him crack one last case: an international drug-smuggling ring... in Canada.

NY-based Translation LLC and Cut + Run editor TG Herrington team up with Sonic Union mixer Michael Marinelli to impact high school kids to stay in school with Lebron James in the affecting :30 PSA “Wake Up” for State Farm Insurance. The spot, directed by Radical Media’s Dave Meyers, features a teenage boy’s nightmare of how his life might turn out if he drops out of school. Marinelli worked closely with sound designer Brian Emrich to create the audio environment to startle the audience as effectively as the teenage boy in the spot. The 26 Seconds campaign, launched by State Farm and working in concert with U.S. Department of Education Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan, aims to help raise high school graduation rates, in hopes of strengthening neighborhoods across the country.
“Wake Up” opens on a shot of a teenage boy reaching over to shut off his alarm clock as we hear a female voice yell, “Wake up, time for school!” He is jolted awake as he suddenly is swallowed into the bed, cutting to a shot of the teenager falling onto the same bed, once again asleep, accompanied by Lebron James’ voiceover, “Every 26 seconds a kid drops out of high school.” He falls through the bed again, this time landing in a new shot as a middle-aged version of himself on a mattress outside on a city street. He looks around incredulously as the voiceover continues, “But without an education, you never know where you’re gonna land.” He disappears into the mattress once more before we cut to a shot him springing awake in the same bed, woken by a nightmare. We cut to the boy rushing to get to his class as James continues, “Wake up. Life is too short to sleep through it.” As the boy sits down at his desk, we see James standing at the back of the classroom. He turns to the camera and finishes, “The dreams start here.” The spot closes with a shot of James walking down the school hallway followed by the State Farm logo. A voiceover concludes, “State Farm is helping kids graduate. Get involved at 26 seconds on Facebook.”

American Airlines flies to 250 cities in 50 countries around the world, but its latest destinations - under the ocean and into your living room - required some help from the post experts at Absolute. The studio's Lead VFX/Flame Artist Dirk Greene once again teamed up with Believe Media Director Gerard de Thame in order to kick out this adventurous pair of spots for the airborne giant.
Scuba follows a couple scuba diving through the rays of light, schools of fish and sea turtles off a sprawling reef. The first indications that this is not your standard reef appear in the form of a "Priority Access" sign lodged into the plant life, followed by a bank of screens showing the status of departing flights, which is just one example-in addition to text notifications and mobile boarding passes-of how American Airline passengers receive a streamlined, mobile boarding experience. As a school of fish darts in front of the camera, blurring the panorama, the water evaporates and the couple comes out in an airport terminal. "Fly without putting yourself on pause," a narrator intones. "Be yourself, nonstop."
This latest project from Greene and de Thame follows joint work on big-name clients Verizon, Allstate and CSX. "One of the reasons why Absolute can consistently create very high level VFX is because we establish production partners that demand excellence," noted Absolute EP Sally Heath. "In the case of Dirk and Gerard, they've developed a special chemistry that manifests itself in everything they do. We're proud of this partnership and look forward to teaming up with Believe Media in the very near future."

Rabbit directing team Black Swan transforms desert creatures into a dapper group in the charming new :40 “Wildly Civilized” for Renault out of Publicis Conseil, Paris. The spot features a gang of meerkats racing to polish up their image for the arrival of the sophisticated new Renault Koleos. Black Swan’s Nick Losq worked closely with post house Mathematic Studios throughout the entire process to develop the detailed CG environment and to define the character and movement of the drab-to-fab gang of meerkats.
Losq began the process by pouring over real footage of meerkats in their natural habitats, carefully observing and capturing their notably humanlike mannerisms. He spent a total of three and a half weeks working closely with the Carnibird team in Paris directing the previs and overseeing the final picture to ensure that the CG creatures were as realistic as possible and appropriately served to tell the story through this real life motion. He notes, “We wanted to ensure that the meerkats were not overly cartoony and I pulled a great deal of references to provide imagery to help the team simulate how the animals would move in each shot.” Losq returned to Paris for the final week of the production, ensuring that each element of the post production aligned with the lifelike vision of the spot.
“Wildly Civilized” opens on a shot of a remote desert road, void of any traffic or human presence. We cut to a shot of a family of antsy meerkats frolicking and lounging in the sun. One of the idling creatures ceases its lounging and immediately jolts upright, sensing something approaching in the distance. We then cut to a shot of a Renault Koleos careening down the sandy road. The gang of suddenly frazzled meerkats begin to scramble into their hole in preparation for the arrival of the lone vehicle. As the Renault approaches the clan’s location, the meerkats emerge from their hole, dressed in full black tie from the waist, up. The gang stands at attention as the Renault dramatically passes in slow motion, gaping as they view their dapper reflections in the vehicle’s reflective black exterior. As the car speeds away, a voiceover begins, “The new Renault Koleos. Wildly Civilized.” The meerkats dreamily gaze at the vehicle moving away in the distance as we cut to the super, “Renault. Quality made.” The spot closes with the Renault logo accompanied by the super, “Drive the change.”

kaboom director brandon dickerson’s sparkling pop sensibility shines in the new promo film for Yahoo! The project, which recently launched online, promotes a unique partnership between Yahoo! and DonorsChoose.org in “Homepages for Homerooms,” an online campaign and competition benefitting public school classrooms. In the project, director dickerson’s extensive music video experience, visual sensibility and talent for eliciting natural performances from kids come together in promotion magic for a great cause.
“Chalk” features kids playfully creating a beautiful chalk mural of the Homepages for Homerooms visual icon surrounded by drawings of growing flowers and the radiant sun. Infused with warmth, the spot encourages people to make Yahoo! their homepage while voting for submitted classroom projects in need of funding. Or, as summed up on a chalkboards message: help make a classroom’s dream come true.
Songwriter/Composer Wes Cunningham, with whom director Brandon dickerson recently collaborated on his upcoming feature film debut, created the accompanying music score infused with pure joy.

To bring the ambitious spot to life, director, Mr. Hide, and production company, The Sweet Shop, teamed with Santa Monica-based company Eight VFX, whose founders Baptiste Andrieux and Jean-Marc Demmer have built an industry-wide reputation for inspired work in commercials, film and TV.
"We began the job back in March, and our team never lost its inspiration for the project and our affection for the character," said Eight VFX Executive Producer Shira Boardman. "Mr. Hide was coming to LA to shoot this and he wanted a company that he could trust technically, as well as partner with creatively."
The spot tells an ordinary tale - a man wakes up, brushes his teeth, has breakfast and heads off to work - but the spot is anything but simple in its imaginative telling.
The man is actually composed of all the members of his family who together make up the giant cartoonish figure. And when he finally emerges from his front door and looks at his driveway where the four Prius hybrid models-the third generation Prius, Prius Plug-in, Prius v and Prius c concept vehicle-are neatly lined up, the various members disentangle themselves from the figure and walk over to the cars and then drive off down the neat, suburban road. And to create this end shot, the neighborhood was shot as a miniature, while all the Prius cars are CG.
"We began with some drawings and then began to build it all in CG, so we could really figure out how it was all going to fit together and what the people person would look like," said Demmer.
To create the effects, Eight VFX did an initial pre-vis, to help create a blueprint for how the spot would actually be shot. The next step was designing and creating the two rigs that supported the people functioning as the main figure. The first rig consisted of the man's head, torso and his arms. The second rig included the legs and feet.
The pre-vis was also vital in helping Demmer and his team determine how best to handle scenes where the people person interacts with props - an alarm clock, door knob and newspaper.
"The pre-vis helped us decide what to shoot in miniature, what in real scale, and what needed to be built in CG," said Demmer. "It helped us break it all down and plan a very complex shoot."
The spot took five days to shoot at Universal Studios. Eight VFX had a team of five on the shoot daily, supervising every technical aspect, including compositing shots in real time to ensure the projects success. Demmer and his team of 22 spent over ten weeks replacing, reshaping and creating CG people and body parts, as well as fine-tuning and cleaning up all the various elements.
"We're huge fans of Mr. Hide and his work, so it was such a real pleasure to collaborate with him on this," said Demmer. "It was a great opportunity to combine miniature sets with oversize props, CG and real people."

About Eight:
Eight VFX began in January 2005 with a simple philosophy - let craftsmanship and artistry be the guide. As relentless champions of this core belief, founders Baptiste Andrieux and Jean-Marc Demmer have seen their company quickly grow into a leading force in the VFX industry. With over six years of rigorous collaboration and experimentation on commercials for brands like Prius, Carl's Jr, Adidas, Hahn Beer, Converse, HP (the now iconic "hands" campaigns), BMW, T-Mobile, Armani, LUX, Fidelity, among a slew of national and international brands, as well as television and features, Eight has demonstrated again and again that original vision translates into outstanding business.
A supreme commitment to craft, detail and innovation has attracted directors such as Tom Kuntz, Rocky Morton, Brian Beletic, Mr Hide, Stacy Wall, Sam Bayer, Bryan Buckley, Olivier Gondry, James Mangold, Joseph Kahn, Paul Hunter, Ruben Fleischer and Jonas Akerlund, among others.

S3D - Stereoscopic 3D Finishing
If you’re producing Stereo 3D television shows our Trusted Post Production Team is here to help. Whether you shoot with a stereo twin lens camera, a mirror rig or a side-by-side rig, our team understands the steps necessary to correct 3D issues, colour grade and output broadcast-ready productions. We can also author an auto-play side-by-side Blu-Ray disc which can be played back on any Blu-Ray player and viewed on a 3D HDTV or monitor. Our team can help design a post production workflow which will save you money, time and a lot of frustration. We’re always open to discuss projects at the pre-production stage so please contact us for a tour and a meeting today!
HD Finishing, Colour Correction & Grading
Our editors will transform your project from ordinary to extraordinary! We can conform from your Final Cut Pro or Avid sequence using S3D, HD or SD tape or digital files. Ingest any animation or graphic files and add new graphics, name supers, titles or logos as required. Blur problem areas in any scene and add colour correction and colour grading to give the show the visual impact you were shooting for. Our team also understands complex broadcast technical and delivery specifications so there’s no need for you to worry.
Creative Editing
Story telling is our passion. If you’re looking for experienced creative editors you’ve come to the right place. Working closely with talented producers and directors, our team have edited award-winning documentaries, television specials, series, direct response television, commercials and independent films. Our fully equipped off-line edit suite is also available for self-operate projects if you want to bring in your own editor for the off-line and have us finish the project.
Tape Outputs & Digital Delivery
No matter if we are outputting a file from your hard drive or a final colour-graded Avid or Final Cut project which we finished, our team pays careful attention to every aspect to ensure that broadcast specification are met. If we notice an error in a supplied file we will call to discuss the issue so that our client is fully aware of possible technical problems. We also output all broadcast projects through a calibrated legalizer to help ensure that Broadcast Safe video levels are achieved. Most projects can be down-converted, up-converted or cross-converted to meet world-wide delivery requirements. Our multiple tape formats include: HDCAM-SR, HDCAM, DVCPRO-HD, XDCAM, HDV, DBeta, BetaSP, DVCPRO and DVCAM. Most programs can also be delivered digitally to meet any broadcasters requirements.
Video Digitizing & Encoding
We can digitize or ingest from almost any source and store the media on our 24 Terabyte server or your removable hard drive. For delivery we can encode your project to any specification at any frame size and frame rate. Our team of technical experts can advise on what type of encoding CODEC will be best suited for your application. Our Digital Service Station enables producers and editors to edit in-house while taking advantage of our technical expertise and equipment for ingest and output.
HD & SD Closed Captioning/Subtitling
PPD’s staff are closed captioning experts! Working from supplied transcripts or just final videos we can close caption or subtitle any show for Broadcast, Webcast, DVD and Blu-Ray. We normally work in English or French but if we are supplied with line-by-line English translations we can work in almost any language.
Descriptive Video
Described video is now required by many broadcasters. This is a separate stereo or mono audio track which has a narrator describing the action in the scene for those viewers who are visually impaired. PPD will handle all aspects of this requirement, from writing the script to hiring a male or female non-union narrator, recording, mixing with the stereo program tracks and laying to tape for the broadcaster. If we produce the descriptive video track at the same time as we closed caption the program there is a cost savings.
Blu-Ray and DVD Authoring
Most shows are now edited in HD so it is only natural that we provide Blu-Ray authoring so that the full HD image can be enjoyed by the viewer. Many film festivals, broadcasters, corporate events and consumers are asking for Blu-Ray disks. PPD can also down-convert HD media to standard definition DVD for those viewers who do not own Blu-Ray players. Our services include encoding, authoring, menu creation, colour label and colour insert creation and duplication.
Media Back-up
Our LTO-4 media back-up service is available for both original camera media and finished projects. For finished projects we can back-up all the media in the project or only the media actually used in the final timeline. Storing media for long periods of time on hard drives can be risky as drives can fail if they are not spun up on a regular basis so we recommend tape storage. The LTO-4 tapes provide inexpensive, long-term, dependable storage. Each tape holds 750 Gigabytes of media and we maintain a database of which projects are on every tape for fast, efficient retrieval of data. Backing up final projects has saved our clients hours of grief when clients or distributors ask for alternative versions or changes to the original project. Once a show is backed up it can be quickly restored to our editing platforms with all video and audio tracks available to our editors. | | | | Nolan Thies-Demo Reel by Nolan Thies 9 months ago

Aliens abound in the new “Earth’s Treasure” spot for McDonald’s via agency Moroch directed by BRW USA’s Fred Raimondi with narrative enhancing music and sound design created by PrimalScream Music. It’s a visual effects-heavy homage to sci-fi blockbusters that deftly transitions tone from creature thriller to its surprise conclusion.
Feature film intensity informs each aspect of the commercial’s production, where every element unites to produce the ultimate film styled experience. Accordingly, the team assembled for the production has deep roots in features and advertising, from award-winning director Fred Raimondi to PrimalScream Music’s selected composer George Kallis whose talent for blending cinematic boldness with humor was ideal for the project’s tone. Raimondi tapped preeminent character designer Tully Summers (Avatar, Green Lantern, Tron) to help design the commercial’s alien stars. To add depth to these original characters, PrimalScream Music developed and recorded an alien language, and designed high intensity sound design to support the unfolding action and soda-inspired transformation.

Agency Copywriter Gavin James says: "We wanted an audio landscape that painted a mood but didn't overpower story. This would be a delicate balance between score and sound design; we wanted sounds unique to this alien world, these characters, and their environment, yet we still wanted it to be grounded in something relatable. PrimalScream Music nailed that balance and really helped elevate the spot"
Director Fred Raimondi agrees, “Nicole and PrimalScream Music really nailed it, from the music to the voices and sound design. It all worked together perfectly.”
About PrimalScream Music & Sound:
PrimalScream Music creates original music and sound for all media; commercials, television, film, movie trailers, games, and branding. For PrimalScream Music, this has been an exciting summer of bold orchestral scores including the recently released “The V” for Summer’s Eve – an audacious story of love, power and hygiene for which PrimalScream Music created original, filmic score recorded live by a massive orchestra and choir. PrimalScream Music also wrote and produced a dramatic score and recorded a live orchestra for Firestone’s “One Hundred Years” which debuted during the Indy 500.
